Our Legacy: The Living Movement

The true blueprint of this movement traces back to the 1980s, an era defined not by institutional building, but by a sovereign, historic move of the Holy Ghost. During this decade, David and Ruth Ndaruhutse ran relentless evangelistic campaigns across the nations through African Revival Ministries, heavily interceding for the spiritual destiny of the entire Great Lakes region and pouring their lives into raising up a fierce core of student and community leaders. Those historic gatherings were marked by an atmospheric, heavyweight power of worship that welcomed the raw manifestation of the Holy Spirit. As radical praise filled the air, mass deliverances and instantaneous healings broke out spontaneously, with the Spirit of God moving so sovereignly through the crowds that people were liberated and completely healed without a single human hand touching them. The tangible weight of Glory was so undeniable that its reach expanded far beyond the immediate meeting grounds; drivers passing by many feet away on nearby roads would suddenly find themselves overwhelmed by the presence of God, experiencing instantaneous deliverance inside their vehicles.

What eventually became known as Eglise Vivante which translates directly to "The Living Church" was simply the unstoppable, natural overflow of those years of power, intercession, and continuous salvations. In the heart of Bujumbura, this move of God completely crossed societal divides as people from all walks of life, from high-ranking political arenas to everyday citizens, were dramatically born again and brought into oneness. As thousands surrendered to the Lordship of Jesus, the leadership raised in the 1980s stepped into divine alignment to host this explosive harvest, launching a formal base in July 1992 in Jabe, Bujumbura. Following this landmark launch, as the fire continued to intensify, massive public "Jesus Marches" began to break out, sweeping through the streets as a bold declaration of Christ's lordship over the culture. Because this fire was fueled entirely by the Spirit, the movement rapidly swept across Eastern and Central Africa, carrying church plantings through the Great Lakes and expanding all the way to Senegal in West Africa. From this foundational fire, a chosen remnant from the movement has since gone beyond those regional borders, carrying the original DNA of the revival into the global diaspora to launch diverse churches and ministry hubs all over the world, an enduring footprint that serves as the spiritual foundation for Vivante Ministries today as Peter Ndaruhutse strategically positions that same fire to impact modern global cultures and nations.
